The Juliette Sews patch is offered by GSNCA as a Council Own patch. The program lists 29 different requirements to choose from and many of those offer a variety of technique options so there is a lot of room for your girl to customize the work performed for this patch. Since K was so interested in sewing I found this an ideal way to let her explore the variety of stuff that could fall under the heading of sewing and let her self-direct the majority of projects

Purpose: This patch program will help girls learn more about sewing by hand and by machine.

Steps: To earn this patch, everyone must complete requirements 1-4 and Juniors must also complete 7 additional requirements
1. Learn about sewing supplies and their purposes - K already has a working knowledge of most sewing supplies but we're taking the opportunity to review some the things that are not part of her kit, like rotary cutters, and using some of the beginner sewing books to look up descriptions.
2. Visit a fabric or quilting shop -
3. Lean how to select and care for sewing tools. What is a "notion"? - Again we went to the books and incorporated instruction into how to use things like a needle threader and scissor safety into the projects themselves.
4. Assemble your own personal sowing kit. Learn about different sizes, kinds of needles and threads.

+1. Find out about the kinds of decorative pieces that may be added to clothing, pillows or personal items. Learn one of the decorative types of work: pom poms. - K knew about most of the techniques and we talk about and pulled up examples of the unfamiliar ones. Mostly she knew them but not by their name, ex: macrame. She choose to learn how to make pom poms so we found a few tutorials online and she practiced making small pompoms for use with one of her other projects. She had trouble tying the off in the center and in some cases, using the scissors where the yarn was thick but otherwise she mastered the fork technique and is very pleased with the results
+2.Embroidery -
+3. Learn about quilting terms and techniques (applique, pieced designs, tufting, embroidery and quilting). Visit a quilt show or look up examples. -
+4.Quilting. Learn how to cut shapes for pieced designs and applique. Transfer designs onto fabric for other processes. Do samples ad diagrams so that you can teach others
+5. Button collage
+6.
+7.
